Antisemitic Incidents Increased in US 360% After Hamas Attacked Israel

Image
In the three months after Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, antisemitic incidents increased throughout the U.S. by 360%, according to preliminary data published by the Anti-Defamation League. At least 3,283 incidents were reported between Oct. 7, 2023, and Jan. 7, 2024, according to the preliminary data. This represents a 360% increase from the 712 incidents reported over the same time period in the prior year. It’s also higher than any total tracked in any year in the past decade, except for 2022. In 2022, the total number of antisemitic incidents were already at a historic high of 3,697, with an 87% increase occurring in the southwest region of the U.S. With an average of nearly 34 antisemitic incidents occurring every day, 2023 is on track to be the worst year for Jews in America with the highest number of antisemitic acts reported since ADL began tracking this data in the late 1970s. The ADL has yet to release 2023 data for the calendar year. “The American Jewish com

The offer includes tuition and fees, as well as housing, meals, books, and other educational expenses for students who are admitted to the university. Just days after the University of Wisconsin agreed to a deal that some regents said “sold out minority students,” the university is promising a free education for Wisconsin’s native American tribes. The university said the Wisconsin Tribal Educational Promise will cover the costs for students who are “enrolled members of federally recognized Wisconsin Indian tribes.” “As a university, we are deeply committed to a future of mutual respect and cooperation with the American Indian tribes in Wisconsin,” UW-Madison Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin said. “This program is another tangible, meaningful step in that direction.” The offer includes tuition and fees, as well as housing, meals, books and other educational expenses for students who are admitted to the university. There are about 650 students at UW-Madison who belong to an India

Ousted McCarthy Won't Run Again for Speakership

Image
Just hours after being voted out of his leadership position, former U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said late Tuesday he would not run for the position again. The House of Representatives voted 216-210 earlier in the day to vacate the speakership, leaving the position open and likely kicking off a marathon of votes to replace or reinstate California Republican Kevin McCarthy. "I believe I can continue to fight, maybe in a different manner," McCarthy said Tuesday night, after the vote. "I will not run for speaker again. I'll have the conference pick somebody else." A handful of House Republicans joined Democrats to oust McCarthy Tuesday afternoon, despite McCarthy telling reporters earlier that he expected to survive the proceedings. As party leadership, he chose to bring the motion to vacate up quickly for a vote Tuesday afternoon. U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., will temporarily replace McCarthy in the House leadership position until the full Hou

Tim Michels Open To Rape & Incest Abortion Exemptions, Evers Accuses Him of Dishonesty

It’s unclear if the Wisconsin legislature would even consider introducing an exemption law. After spending millions of dollars on campaign ads to paint Tim Michels as radical on abortion, Gov. Tony Evers is calling Michels dishonest for being open to exemptions to Wisconsin’s strict abortion law. Michels on Friday told News Talk 1130 WISN’s Dan O’Donnell that he would sign a law allowing women who are the victims of rape or incest to get an abortion in the state. “I am pro-life and make no apologies for that. But I also understand that this is a representative democracy. And if the people, in this case, the legislature,  brought a bill before me, as you just stated, I would sign that,” Michels said. Wisconsin’s current abortion law only allows for exemptions to save a mother’s life. Evers had made abortion the centerpiece of his re-election bid. He is running several ads that say Michels would not support exemptions for rape and incest. On Friday, the governor all but calle

The CDC says it is also aware of some cases of varicella, mumps, tuberculosis, malaria, leishmaniasis, hepatitis A, and COVID-19 among evacuees. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending that medical professionals and clinicians be on alert for infectious diseases among Afghan nationals recently brought into the country, including measles, mumps and rubella, diseases for which Americans have already been vaccinated. After the CDC announcement , Pentagon Press Secretary John F. Kirby said Afghan evacuees were required to get the MMR vaccine and then be quarantined for 21 days. As of Sept. 20, the CDC had been notified of 16 confirmed cases of measles and four cases of mumps among Afghan nationals and U.S. citizens who recently arrived from Afghanistan. Earlier this month, Afghans contracted measles at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin. “All arriving Afghans are currently required to be vaccinated for measles as a condition of their humanitarian parole. And
