Trump also is continuing to lead his Democratic challenger, Vice President Kamala Harris, according to the poll published by the Texas Hispanic Policy Foundation. Trump holds a six-point lead over Harris, 50% to 44%. “Harris and Trump are effectively tied among Hispanic likely voters (49% vs. 43%),” the report states. Trump’s “strength among Texas Hispanic likely voters continues to show a striking resilience,” TxHPF CEO Jason Villalba said. FACT CHECK: In Presidential Debate, Harris Deflects on Border Record

Image
During the presidential debate on Tuesday night, Vice President Kamala Harris deflected when answering questions on the ongoing border crisis. When asked “why did the administration wait until six months before the election to act” on the border crisis, and if she would have done anything differently from President Joe Biden, Harris didn’t answer the question. She deflected by repeating the claim she’s previously made that she prosecuted transnational criminal organizations when she was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017. “I'm the only person on this stage who has prosecuted transnational criminal organizations for the trafficking of guns drugs and human beings,” she said. She also repeated a claim that she would sign a U.S. Senate border bill that went nowhere in the Democratic controlled Senate. “Some of the most conservative members of the United States Senate came up with the border security bill which I supported,” she said. “That bill would have pu...

Spring Election Puts Constitutional Amendments, Local Races on Wisconsin Ballot

Image
The presidential contest in Wisconsin is all but decided, but voters will have some important choices on their ballots on Tuesday. The spring primary will feature two constitutional amendments, nearly 100 school referendum questions and local races in communities across the state. Constitutional Amendments Wisconsin voters are being asked to ban outside money in the state’s election in a pair of constitutional amendments. The first amendment deals with the so-called Zuckerbucks. Republican lawmakers pushed the proposal through the legislature after Gov. Tony Evers vetoed a state law that would have banned outside charities and non-profits from spending money on election operations. The move comes after the Center for Tech and Civic Life spent about $6 million in Wisconsin during the November 2020 election. Almost all of that money went to the state’s five largest and most Democratic cities. Republican lawmakers have said Zuckerbucks undermine people’s faith in the state’s...

Analysis: The 10 U.S. Senate Seats Most Likely to Flip

Image
The 2024 presidential election has grabbed most of the headlines recently, but the U.S. Senate races are taking shape under the radar. Here is a preview of the 10 most likely to flip. West Virginia – Open (D): It’s not that often that every elections analyst in the country concurs on something, but I suspect you will get unanimous agreement that this seat is far and away the most likely Senate seat to flip. Joe Manchin is a Democrat who has basically been swimming against a Republican tide since he won the seat in a 2010 special election. Two years prior, John McCain carried the state by 12 points over Barack Obama. Donald Trump won it by almost 40 points in 2020. It’s unlikely that even the popular Manchin, who won narrowly in the good Democratic year of 2018, could emerge victorious, but with his retirement, the seat is just gone. Montana – Jon Tester (D): Reasonable minds can disagree about whether Montana or Ohio is the more vulnerable seat. Tester is probably a bet...

Republican 2024 presidential candidates will gather Wednesday night in Miami to duke it out as the primary season continues. The Republican National Committee released a full list of candidates who meet the donor and support criteria and who are expected to debate tonight: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Former South Carolina Governor and Ambassador Nikki Haley Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy Senator Tim Scott, R-S.C. The list of candidates has narrowed in recent weeks as candidates dropped out after failing to gain momentum. The biggest dropout among them was Vice President Mike Pence, who stepped out of the race at the end of October saying “it is not my time.” Notably, former President Donald Trump will skip the debate and hold a rally in Hialeah, a Florida city adjacent to Miami and just minutes from the GOP debate. Trump has said the voters know who he is and that he should not have to debate opponen...
