By expanding opportunities for families to customize the education to me

At Least 9 Americans Killed in Hamas Attack, State Department Confirms

The attack comes just weeks after the Biden administration released $6 billion to Iran, the main backer of Hamas. At least nine Americans were killed in the surprise Hamas attack on Israel over the weekend, the State Department has confirmed. Over the weekend, Hamas terrorists fired thousands of rockets from Gaza to multiple locations in Israel as militants infiltrated Israel, killing and capturing Israelis. Israeli media reported hundreds dead and thousands wounded, and Israeli forces quickly struck back. Among those casualties were at least nine dead Americans, State Department spokesman Matt Miller said on MSNBC Monday morning. "We can confirm that there are nine American citizens who have lost their lives as a result of these horrific attacks," Miller said. Miller also said there are reports of Americans who are unaccounted for, something the agency is looking into. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on "Meet the Press" Sunday that there co

Majority of Americans Use Savings to Cover Inflation Costs as Stagflation Concerns Mount, Reports Say

Recently surveyed economists also agree the U.S. is likely to hit a recession in 2023. The majority of Americans’ finances are worse than they were a year ago and they’re blowing through savings to make ends meet as record-high inflation has caused prices to skyrocket, several reports indicate. At the same time, financial experts argue stagflation warnings are surfacing as the White House says it hasn’t “missed much” on inflation and boasts of economic growth. Roughly 70% of Americans are using their savings to cover the higher costs of goods that are blowing through their budgets, a recent survey of 2,000 adults conducted by Forbes found. According to the survey, 67%, or “a full two-thirds of Americans say they’re raiding their savings as prices for goods and services spike.” Among them, 8% said they’ve completely drained their savings; 23% have depleted a substantial amount and 36% have spent a small amount solely because of inflation. Older Americans are faring better, wit

Demand for Mortgages Drops to Lowest Point in 22 Years Amid Higher Rates

The number of Americans seeking new mortgages has plummeted as interest rates have risen this year, according to new data. The Mortgage Bankers Associate released the data Wednesday showing that the purchase and refinance applications dropped the market index to its lowest point in 22 years. Mortgage applications decreased 6.5% in the past week. In March, mortgage rates surpassed 4% for the first time since 2019. Now, they are even higher after a period of lower rates in recent years. “The 30-year fixed-rate increased to 5.4 percent after three consecutive declines. While rates were still lower than they were four weeks ago, they remain high enough to still suppress refinance activity,” said Joel Kan, MBA’s Associate Vice President of Economic and Industry Forecasting. “Only government refinances saw a slight increase last week.” Higher mortgage rates are a response to inflation, which is rising at the fastest rate in decades. Kan said those rising mortgage rates have made i

25% of Americans Will Delay Retirement Because of Inflation, Survey Says

Millions of Americans say they likely will have to push back their retirement because of rising inflation, newly released financial survey data found. The BMO Real Financial Progress Index, a quarterly survey from BMO and Ipsos, showed that a quarter of Americans will likely need to delay their retirement because of higher prices. “Nearly 60% of those surveyed said that inflation has adversely affected their personal finances, of which about one in four said that they have felt a major impact,” the group said. “As a result of inflation, 36% of Americans have reduced their savings and 21% have reduced their retirement savings. A quarter of Americans will need to delay their retirement. Younger Americans are feeling the most impact – over 60% of those aged 18-34 said they had to reduce contributions to their savings.” This survey of more than 3,400 adults was conducted from March 30 to April 25. Prices on a range of goods and services have soared since President Joe Biden took o

Shrinkflation: Consumers Are Paying More Through Smaller Portions

An example of shrinkflation, what was once a 24-can box of Coca-Cola now holds 20 cans. Americans are seeing the real costs of inflation in their daily lives as they pay record-high gas prices, significantly increased grocery costs, and suffer sticker shock at restaurants, hair salons and other places. Restaurants are charging more, with some posting notices on their doors. Increased prices, they say, are necessary to stay open simply to cover their increased costs for cooking oil and other goods. Some restaurants post signs accompanying empty containers to show that while they’re not increasing prices, their portion sizes are smaller. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that prices have increased by 7.9% in the past 12 months, since the start of President Joe Biden's presidency. But the increased prices don't take into account the fact that consumers also are paying more for less in another way: shrinkflation. The term points to how less of a product is sold at th

75% of Americans Say ‘Defund the Police’ Caused Violent Crime Wave, Poll Says

The violent crime wave poll also found that two-thirds of those surveyed believe increasing funding police would reduce crime. Three out of four Americans say defunding police departments has contributed to the rise in violent crime across the country, according to a new poll. A Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday found that 75% of surveyed Americans say that “the defunding of police departments” is “a reason that violent crime is increasing in the United States.” The survey reports that 49% said defunding police was a “major reason” for the rise in violent crime while 26% said it was a “minor reason.” Only 25% said it was “not a reason” for the spike in violent crime. Experts have  echoed   the point that the defund movement leads to more violent crime, saying police officers fear a lack of support from their departments if they are involved in a fatal shooting. This leads to them avoiding more dangerous neighborhoods altogether. The violent crime wave poll also

Anthony Fauci: Poll Says Majority Thinks He Should be Removed

The majority of surveyed Americans think Anthony Fauci should be removed from his role in helping lead the federal government’s COVID-19 response, a new poll released Monday by Convention of States Action, along with Trafalgar Group, shows. Fauci currently serves as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief medical advisor to the president. While 76.6% of surveyed Republican voters want Fauci to quit, only 17.5% of Democrats feel the same. Notably, the Anthony Fauci poll found that “58.9 percent of Independent voters believe Dr. Fauci should resign his position and role in leading the government’s COVID-19 response to allow for new leadership," while "41.1 percent believe Dr. Fauci should not resign.” The poll results came from a survey conducted Jan. 12-14 of more than 1,000 likely 2022 voters. “Once known as ‘America’s Doctor’, Dr. Anthony Fauci has become a highly partisan figure among voters,” said Mark Meckler, president of
