Supreme Court Blocks Biden Vaccine Mandate for Private Businesses
The U.S. Supreme Court blocks President Joe Biden's vaccine mandates for private businesses in a closely watched decision that will affect millions of Americans.
According to NBC , the Biden administration's sweeping rule would have given "more than two-thirds of the country's workforce" two months to make sure their employees were fully vaccinated or tested weekly.
The Supreme Court struck down that new regulation in a 6-3 vote.
However, in a 5-4 decision, the court left standing a mandate for medical facilities. Brett Kavanaugh and John Roberts joined the liberal justices in that decision.
“Although Congress has indisputably given OSHA the power to regulate occupational dangers, it has not given that agency the power to regulate public health more broadly,” the court wrote in the opinion, which was released on January 13, 2022.
