Judge Michael Maxwell Strikes Down Kettle Moraine Schools' Gender Policy, Upholding Parents' Rights

Image
(The Center Square) – A judge in Waukesha County issued a ruling that sides with parents in the debate over how school districts handle transgenderism in schools. Judge Michael Maxwell on Tuesday sided with two parents in the Kettle Moraine School District after they sued in 2021 because the district did not tell them that school leaders and teachers were calling their middle school-aged daughter by a different name at school. Luke Berg with the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, one of the law firms that handled the case, said this is the first time a judge has come down on the side of the parents in a case like this one. “This victory represents a major win for parental rights. The court confirmed that parents, not educators or school faculty, have the right to decide whether a social transition is in their own child’s best interests. The decision should be a warning to the many districts across the country with similar policies to exclude parents from gender transition...

Wisconsin Bail Reform Bill Would Require $10,000 Bond in Some Cases

Image
State Sen. Julian Bradley (R-Franklin) and Rep. Chuck Wichgers (R-Muskego) have announced a Wisconsin bail reform package in the wake of the Waukesha parade attack. In part, the bill would require a minimum bond of at least $10,000 for defendants who have previously committed a felony or violent misdemeanor. Bradley told Wisconsin Right Now: "Community safety has to be a factor as our state considers the flight risk of criminals. Currently, Wisconsin lives are in danger because of the low bail that soft-on-crime judges and DAs are setting. This revolving door for criminals must end. We must bring accountability and transparency to the court system to ensure serial criminals don't continually have the opportunities to put our communities and families in harm's way." He added: "Governor Evers took no time to investigate Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm after the tragedy in Waukesha where a criminal Chisholm let loose killed six people. The absolute mi...

Darrell Brooks Criminal Record: Milwaukee Courts Let Him Free

Image
Serious felony charges didn't keep him in jail and a "congested" court system delayed trial. Milwaukee County's backlogged court system is responsible for the man in custody in the Waukesha parade massacre remaining on the streets more than a year after he was charged with serious felonies, including a gun offense, Wisconsin Right Now has learned. We've learned from scanner audio and other sources that the man in custody in the parade horror is Darrell Brooks Jr. What's his criminal record? He has two open felony cases in Milwaukee County and a lengthy string of criminal arrests across multiple counties and states. He's a 39-year-old felon from Milwaukee County, and the Milwaukee Court system suspended his speedy trial rights due to "court congestion," releasing him on $500 bail even though he was facing serious weapons and other felony charges. Then, even though he was socked with a string of new felony charges, he was released again ...
