Harris-Trump Polling Margins Razor-thin in Wisconsin

Image
New polling from Wisconsin shows the presidential race in the state remains too close to call. The survey, conducted Oct. 16-24 by Marquette Law School, shows Democrat Vice President Kamala Harris barely leads Republican former President Donald Trump 50% to 49% among Wisconsin voters. The results fall well within the poll’s +/-4.4 margin of error. “It should not surprise anyone if Donald Trump wins, and it should not surprise anyone if Kamala Harris wins,” MLS poll Director Franklin said. “Because the polling – both ours and the polling averages for the state, which is under a 1% average margin right now – are just so close that polling is not going to help us at all to have confidence in who’s the likely winner.” The partisan makeup of the poll sample, which included 834 registered and 753 likely voters, is 39% Republican, 31% Democratic, and 34% Independent. Favorability ratings have remained mostly stable for the presidential candidates, but have significantly changed for ...

Bets: 3 Weeks to go, & Trump Ascending to Favorite

Image
Just 22 days from Election Day, Republican Donald Trump is the betting favorite over Kamala Harris 54.1%-44.9%. Six times the favorite has changed since the vice president became the clear choice of Democrats in the wake of President Joe Biden quitting. The latest difference is the largest since the first of those shifts. “We are going to defeat Kamala Harris, and we are going to usher in a new golden age of American success for citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed,” Trump said on social media Sunday. Harris, campaigning Sunday in North Carolina, told her audience, "As president it is my pledge to you that I will always fight for all the American people, and together we will build a brighter future for our nation." Trump has a 20-point platform , led by a return to enforcement of securing national borders. He chastises the Democrats for inflation that at 2.4% remains higher than when he left office in January 2021, yet is considerably lower than the 9....

New Bill Would Require Feds to Screen Border Crossers Against Terror Watch List

Image
A congressman from north Texas has introduced a bill that would require federal agents to screen everyone who enters the country illegally against the federal terrorist watch list. The bill was introduced as more than 200 known or suspected terrorists (KSTs) have already been apprehended attempting to enter the country this fiscal year. U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, a Republican whose district lies west and northwest of Fort Worth, introduced HR 7733, the Identifying Potential Terrorist at the Border Act of 2024. It would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to “take into and maintain custody over an alien until the commissioner cross references the name of such alien with the terrorist screening database and a result for such cross reference is received by the commissioner.” When announcing the bill, Williams said, “We are a land of laws, and it is past time this Administration acts like it. [President] Joe Biden is encour...

DOJ Calls Law Enforcement Response to Uvalde School Shooting 'a failure'

Image
A long-awaited report from U.S. Department of Justice released Thursday found widespread problems with law enforcement officers' response to the mass school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. A gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on May 24, 2022. The Justice Department report provided the most thorough examination yet as to what happened inside the school. The 610-page report details the multiple failures in the response to the shooting, including the breakdowns in leadership, decision-making, tactics, policy and training that contributed to those failures. While some of the first officers on the scene initially tried to engage the gunman, they retreated after being met with gunfire. After that, the law enforcement responders began treating the incident as a barricaded subject scenario rather than as an active shooter situation. A tactical team finally went into the classroom to engage the gunman, Salvador Ramos, 77 minutes af...

Cities Across America React to Buses Carrying Migrants to Their Doorstep

Image
From the small towns of Woodstock, Illinois, and Secaucus, New Jersey, to the metropolises of Denver, New York and Chicago, municipalities are starting to take action against the infusion of migrants from Texas. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's 16-month policy of exporting the border crisis to sanctuary cities by busing migrants out of Texas has exasperated big city leaders and sounded alarms in nearby towns. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston  told the City Council members this week that the infusion of migrants being bused from Texas to their city would cost $180 million in 2024 and is not sustainable. In nearby Aurora, about 15 miles east of Denver, City Council Member Danielle Jurinsky said that the Denver mayor was renting hotel rooms in Aurora and putting up migrants without the approval of the Denver City Council. Jurinsky stated at the Dec. 4 city council meeting that Aurora residents at extended-stay hotels were put out on the street because the migrants were taking all the ...

Wisconsin Republicans Propose Change to Unemployment Benefits

'Some of the changes would require people on unemployment in Wisconsin to look for work, actually go on interviews, and accept jobs that they’re offered in order to qualify for benefits.' The plan from Wisconsin Republicans to get people back to work took its first step forward at the Capitol Thursday. The Wisconsin Assembly approved new rules for people receiving Medicaid & unemployment benefits. “We are looking to build a stronger workforce,” Rep. Bob Petryk, R-Town of Washington, said Thursday, “It is the number one issue among employers in our state.” Petryk’s proposal, AB 883 , would make a series of changes to how unemployment benefits are managed in the state. “Instead of looking at an entitlement, what we want the Department [of Workforce Development] to do is change their focus to helping people get back to work,” Petryk said. Some of the changes would require people on unemployment in Wisconsin to look for work, actually go on interviews, and accept jo...
