Again? Golf Course Perimeter Not Secure Because Trump Not 'Sitting President'

Image
The perimeter around the Florida golf course where a gunman with an AK-47 style rifle was perched while former President Donald Trump played nearby was not secure because Trump isn't the sitting president, authorities said. The FBI is investigating the incident as the second assassination attempt on Trump's life since July. The suspect is in custody. During a news conference after the gunman was spotted pointing the nuzzle of the rifle through a chain-link fence toward the course, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said the suspect was able to get within 300 to 500 yards of Trump because the former president and 2024 Republican presidential nominee doesn't get the same level of security as a sitting president. "Well, you got to understand, the golf course is surrounded by shrubbery, so when somebody gets into the shrubbery, they're pretty much out of sight, all right," Bradshaw said after a question about how the gunman could get so close. "A...

DeSantis Drops Out, Endorses Trump Just Before New Hampshire GOP Primary

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Sunday he is dropping out of the Republican presidential primary and endorsing former President Donald Trump. DeSantis said he could not continue to ask for support when he does not have a "clear path to victory." "I'm proud to have delivered on 100% of my promises, and I will not stop now," he said in an online video. "It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance." The news comes as New Hampshire voters are set to head to the polls Tuesday to choose their favored candidate in the Republican presidential primary race as Trump’s challengers run low on time to gain ground in the race. Trump holds a sizeable lead in New Hampshire, though not as wide as his margin in Iowa, a state he won handily last Monday with more than 50% support. DeSantis finished a distant second in Iowa, but he had a grim outlook in New Hampshire and little hope of winni...

DeSantis Surges, Trump Falters in Midterms

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ sweeping win in Florida on Tuesday has propelled his stature in the Republican Party just as candidates backed by former President Donald Trump struggled on election day, setting a more favorable stage for DeSantis ahead of a potential 2024 presidential primary matchup. DeSantis won his gubernatorial race in 2018 by about 33,000 votes. This time around, with 99% of the total reporting, DeSantis leads his Democrat opponent by more than 1.5 million votes. DeSantis’ win validated his brand of economically strong, anti-COVID restriction politics with an edge on culture war issues. He hammered home that message in his victory speech Tuesday night. "We have embraced freedom,” DeSantis said. “We have maintained law and order. We have protected the rights of parents. We have respected our taxpayers, and we reject woke ideology ... We will never ever surrender to the woke mob. Florida is where woke goes to die!" Miami-Dade County supported Hillary Cl...
