Tim Michels: Questions He Needs to Answer to Be the GOP's Nominee for Governor

Construction company CEO Tim Michels is widely considered to be considering a run for governor, although no one is certain whether he will announce Thursday or next week - or ever, although the buzz is growing. However, if he does launch a campaign, he needs to answer key questions important to many conservatives, namely about his positions on right to work, prevailing wage, the gas tax, the "Scott Holes" campaign against former Gov. Scott Walker, and unions. Especially unions. A 2015 article in the Daily Reporter called Michels Corp. "one of the largest union companies in the state." That article was headlined, " Will the construction industry take vengeance on GOP in 2016?" We sent these questions to Tim Michels through his company. If we get a response, we will publish it. Later in this story, we will outline the facts that are driving concern among some conservatives over these topics. 1. What is your position on Right to Work legislation? 2.

Gov Evers Slammed in New GOP Ad Over Parents' Bill of Rights Veto

Gov. Tony Evers' veto of a parents' bill of rights is slammed in a major new ad buy from an affiliate of the Republican Governors Association. The ad starts this week. "Tony Evers thinks you weren’t paying attention," the ad starts, explaining that Evers opposes increasing "transparency and trust in classrooms." Evers "stood against a parent's right to have a say in their children’s education," the ad says, adding that he opposed allowing parents "to be informed of crimes on school grounds." It concludes, "Tell Tony Evers parents have rights and children matter." According to the Republican Governors Association , the ad buy "is high 5 figures (nearly 6 figures) across TV broadcast & cable and digital for this first week – digital is across Facebook, Instagram, and P2P texting." The ad was created by Get Families Back to Work, an RGA group. Evers' veto was one of multiple that took power away fro

EXCLUSIVE: Bob Donovan Considering Run For State Assembly

Former Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan is thinking about running for the 84th State Assembly district. Donovan told WRN that he is "strongly considering" the run and hopes to make a final decision by Monday. Donovan was defeated by Cavalier Johnson earlier this month in a run for Milwaukee Mayor. The current 84th State assembly Representative, Mike Kuglitsch of New Berlin, announced in February that he won’t seek reelection this fall. Kuglitsch has represented the district since 2011. The district has trended solidly Republican for the last 20 years and includes the southern half of the City of New Berlin in Waukesha County, as well as the western half of the City of Greenfield and several blocks of the southwest corner of the city of Milwaukee. David Karst , current chairman of the Republican Party of Milwaukee County, has filed in February to run for the same seat.

Attorney General Josh Kaul's Clergy Sex Investigation Lacking Details

Wisconsin’s attorney general said his investigation into clergy sex abuse across the state has resulted in 1,000 calls to his tipline, 204 reports, and one criminal case. But there are some questions the AG is not answering. Kaul launched his investigation into the Catholic Church in Wisconsin one year ago. On Tuesday, he provided an update on his progress. “As of April 18, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Clergy and Faith Leader Initiative has received a total of 204 completed reports to the toll-free tip line and the online reporting tool accusing more than 150 individuals of abuse. Over 1,000 calls have been made to or from the tip line, including repeat calls from survivors who remember additional information or are looking for follow-up information,” Kaul said in a statement. Kaul said his office also received what he calls a “significant number of reports from those who had not previously reported to anyone.” But he is not saying just how many reports are included in t

Tom Tiffany: President Biden Must Reverse Course on Taxes

By: Congressman Tom Tiffany While Tax Day comes and goes every year with little fanfare, this April, Wisconsin families will face something they haven't seen in several decades: a hidden tax. Wisconsinites are used to the state and federal government taking a chunk out of their paychecks every pay period. Unfortunately, wasteful spending in Washington and policies that call on Congress to inject even more money into our fragile economy have created a perfect storm that has resulted in record inflation that affects all Americans. Last month, the  Marquette University law poll  revealed nearly 70% of people are very concerned about inflation. President Joe Biden 's attempts to dodge blame for rising prices continue to be a moving target for the administration. First, Biden claimed  inflation was transitory  before admitting that it was not. He then tried to blame the rise of costs on blocked  supply chains  but conveniently left out that Pete Buttigieg and his administratio

Tommy Thompson Not Running for Governor

GOP insiders now expect former Senate candidate Tim Michels to announce his run for governor later this week. Former Gov. Tommy Thompson on Monday announced he is not running for governor. “This is a very difficult conclusion,” Thompson said in a statement. “After a full life of service and leading and growing businesses, I know I have the vision, drive and vitality to serve another term as governor. Wisconsin needs strong leadership to bridge political divides, care for our most vulnerable, set our economy on a path to succeed in the 21st-century, and again make us the shining star of the nation. I would have brought those qualities and commitment as governor.” Thompson served four terms as governor in Wisconsin, he was first elected in 1986. He left the governor’s mansion to serve in the George W. Bush Administration in 2002. Thompson last ran for office in 2012, when he lost a bid for U.S. Senate. Thompson most recently was the interim president of the University of Wisco
