Tom Barrett Resigning? Mayor To Be Nominated as Luxembourg Ambassador

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who has presided over skyrocketing violent crime, a lead crisis that imperiled children, and a city with some of the nation's worst racial disparities in poverty and other areas, will be nominated as the ambassador to Luxembourg. That's according to sources, who say President Joe Biden will make the announcement on Aug. 25, 2021.

Is Tom Barrett Resigning?

If so, that would leave Common Council President Cavalier Johnson as the city's interim mayor, shaking up a city that hasn't been led by anyone else in the mayor's position since 2004. Barrett, a Democrat, is 67 years old. Barrett would need to be confirmed to the ambassador's post. According to his mayoral bio, "After earning his undergraduate and law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he entered public service starting in the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate and continuing his legislative career representing Milwaukee in the U.S. Congress. On April 6, 2004, Milwaukee elected Tom Barrett as its 40th Mayor. He has won reelection in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020."

The City of Wauwatosa has instructed city workers that they should avoid using red and green in public spaces to celebrate Christmas. Instead, top city officials are urging them to decorate counters with purple and blue instead. The email went out this week from Deputy City Administrator Melissa Cantarero Weiss. It also notes that City Administrator James Archambo is on board with the instructions. Tony Evers' Appointee's Parolee Is Person of Interest in Elkhorn Homicides

One of the criminals freed by Gov. Tony Evers' appointee on the state Parole Commission is now a person of interest in the double homicide of Gina and Emerson Weingart in an Elkhorn bar. [caption id="attachment_161199" align="alignleft" width="225"] Thomas Routt Jr[/caption] Thomas Routt Jr. 57, was named by his story to WTMJ-TV, but the attorney says he denies wrongdoing. So far, police have not confirmed the name, although they revealed on Monday that a person of interest is in custody. The Weingarts were both found shot to death inside the Sports Page Barr in Elkhorn in a crime that has shocked the community.
