Convention Delegate Update - Wednesday Morning [Up Against the Wall]

Various Observations Reporters and Their Questions - What is really neat is that probably 90% of the reporters here are really friendly, honest, and some of them are wearing conservative hats or other stuff. However, there are two that we’ve run into that have their own agenda. Example - When the delegate next to me was interviewed about Nikki Haley before Haley spoke, she talked about how Nikki would speak to uniting the party, etc., and I was watching the face of the reporter and the reporter immediately stopped the interview and walked away when he didn’t get the answer he wanted. His questions were designed to be decisive and he wasn’t going to report on any delegate who didn’t give him what he wanted - which was a phony story. Surprise Guests - Once again, Trump and Vance showed up, not to speak, but to listen. That says a lot. They’re there to listen to DeSantis, Haley, and regular Americans that are speaking. Yes, about every other speaker is a regular, everyday American. (There’s a giant TV screen on the back wall where they display the speakers' speeches, basically a giant teleprompter.) Eric Hovde did a really good job speaking. I can’t imagine having to get up there in front of 18,000 people and not make a mistake. Teamsters - The Teamsters president, Sean O’Brien (talk about Irish), spoke at the convention. Holy crap. I’m not sure how important this. It’s historic. Name me when the last time that a Teamsters president spoke at the Republican convention; never. Genius. O’Brien is super smart; He’s not giving the Democrats a free pass this election. He’s going to make them earn it - or the Republicans can win his support. Trump, being a developer, has hired tons of trade union and teamsters members over the decades of building stuff so it makes sense. Career politicians couldn’t pull this off; only Trump. There also are moms who spoke about losing a teen to the drugs coming across the open border. Business people who spoke about the struggles of running a business under Biden’s crushing regulations. A woman who spoke about her family member being pursued by a D.A. The Trump Assassin - Apparently the police and Secret Service knew this guy was out there. I don’t blame the police, I blame the leadership of the Secret Service and the decision makers and the political left that have successfully frozen law enforcement from enforcing the law and protecting candidates and Americans. It’s a cultural change. We need to change it back. Remember, I called early on for the resignation of the head of the Secret Service. The omissions were obvious. The breach is inexcusable. Just the lack of information coming out of the Secret Service leadership right now is reason enough for the leadership team to be fired immediately. The fact that Biden won’t fire the head of the SS after this assassination attempt says everything you need to know about Biden’s desire in regard to Trump. Milwaukee - Thank goodness that the Ohio police here in Milwaukee shot and killed a threat - a guy running around with knives threatening a pedestrian. Then other police grabbed a guy who allegedly tried to enter the security zone with an assault rifle. The police here have been fantastic. There are apparently 3,000 of them, from all over the country, which I didn’t know. They also smartly assigned specific police to what they called something like free speech interaction, in other words, encouraging people to talk it out if they are on opposing sides. I feel very safe here. There are roaming gangs of 12 to 16 police officers on bikes riding around the DMZ. They’re doing a really good job. The only protestor I’ve seen is one woman yelling into a blow-horn saying something that was not comprehendible. That’s it. They’ve done a good job of keeping the protestors and the delegates well separated. Frankly, we don’t want to see or hear them and some may just want to start a confrontation so that becomes the news that night. They’re disruptors. These are the same people who will probably try to disrupt the Democrat convention. Some likely want to create an ‘incident’. Retailers and Restaurants - I do feel bad about the retailers and restaurants in the DMZ. They are not getting much business unless they are a party venue or in the 3rd Street Market. It’s like a ghost town inside the DMZ. Delegates are just too busy with commitments - we’re tied up starting with breakfasts and speakers, getting credentials, and at about 3 p.m. with getting to Fiserv, getting in line and entering, and getting to the floor by 5 p.m. each day. We can’t eat dinners out…we have to grab some quick food in the conventionfest area with vendors in tents. There’s little time for eating out or shopping. Milwaukee - The city did put in some new street planters with new flowers in the DMZ, which are nice, but the city’s roads are really beat up and should have been fixed or paved or the concrete replaced. They should be picking up litter (before we got here) every morning. Likewise, in Fiserv, the city didn’t pick up the litter on the floor from the prior night. (For security reasons, I don’t see any trash cans on the floor…) By Thursday night the place will probably look like a frat house on Sunday morning after a Saturday night party, minus the alcohol smell.
